| ABOUT THE
CHEF: After
10 years as a house husband, artist, and passionate amateur chef, Chris
Avey took to professional cookery in 2005 at the age of 39, quickly
gaining a distinction in his first professional qualification.
Chris became the Chef in Norwich at the University of East Anglia's nursery, where he cooks an entirely vegetarian menu for up to 90 children each day. In 2007 The UEA Nursery was placed 'Highly Commended' in the first ever national Nursery Food awards, highlighting good practice, good ingredients, and good food for the under 5's. Chris has also produced a cookbook for sale on behalf of the nursery which won the first Organix prize for a nursery recipe book, which was presented to Chris by chef Paul Rankin at the BBC Good Food show. Chris is also a chef at a bar and bistro just outside Norwich. Of course Chris has over 20 years experience of cooking excellent food for adults as well as children. He also runs courses on general cooking for beginners, and meat-free cooking, and contributes a regular recipe article to Sprouts magazine for parents of under 5's. See an example recipe on the recipe page. |

Chris Avey (that's Avey, not Avery) is an award winning vegetarian chef from Norwich, Norfolk UK, who, after 20 years as a 'talented amateur', turned professional at the age of 39. He holds a distinction in his first professional (City and Guilds) qualification, and currently has two distinction grades towards his second qualification, due to be completed summer 2009. Contact Chris for dinner parties, christenings, wedding catering, soirees, romantic dinners, birthday menus, a birthday party, eating at home or in hired venues. A private chef for hire in Norfolk, contact Chris when you are planning on entertaining friends at home, want a personalised menu or don't want to cook for youself. I don't want to cook for myself, I want someone to do the cooking for me, I want a personal chef, a private chef in my kitchen. I'll call Chris. In his day job at the UEA nursery, Nowich, where Chris cooks for 90 children each day, he has acheived a top award, putting the nursery kitchen in the top seven, nationwide, as well as having produced an award-winning cookery book. The kitchen at the nursery was also awarded five stars out of five by Norwich City Council, in respect of its cleanliness and good hygiene practices. Chris may be the only chef you'll meet who can unicycle while tossing a pancake!
